Jan 26: tribute to JACK DANGERS of Meat Beat Manifesto

"In the beginning, there was Jack. And Jack had a groove."

On Thursday, January 26th, Strangelove pays homage to electronic visionary Jack Dangers.

DJs Tomas Diablo, Mitch (Death Guild, Meat), and very special guest Ben Stokes (DHS) spin the best mixes and our favorite tracks from Meat Beat Manifesto, Tino Corp, and Jack's remix work for such artists as Depeche Mode, Nine Inch Nails, DHS, the Cranes, Coil, BiGod 20, Consolidated, and many more. And, of course, the best dark electro, industrial, new wave, and goth.

We will be giving away tickets to see Meat Beat Manifesto at Mezzanine on February 9th, as well as other Meat Beat Manifesto-related treats such as posters and classic MBM albums.

Details below...
A brief history of Jack

After the breakup of the group 'Perennial Divide', Jack Dangers formed Meat Beat Manifesto in 1987, and mixed hip-hop beats with power noise. Initially considered an industrial act, MBM released a string of hard-hitting tracks on the Wax Trax label, such as 'God O.D.', 'Strap Down', and 'Genocide'. In 1990, Meat Beat Manifesto changed labels and released the seminal classic '99%', which contained 'Psyche Out', and 'Helter Skelter'. A B-side from this album, 'Radio Babylon', is widely recognized as the catalyst for the birth of jungle music. In the 90's, Jack inspired the big-beat sounds of artists like Prodigy and the Chemical Brothers, and released 3 more albums - 'Satiricon', the double album 'Subliminal Sandwich', and 'Actual Sounds and Voices'. After the commercial success of the single 'Prime Audio Soup' on the Matrix soundtrack, Jack dissolved Meat Beat Manifesto and released a string of records for DJs on the Tino Corp label (founded by Jack and Ben Stokes). In recent years, Jack reformed Meat Beat Manifesto and released the albums 'RUOK?', the jazz-oriented 'At the Center' and follow-up EP 'Off-centre', the DVD album 'In Dub', and a remix collection based on the Storm the Studio sessions. Jack has also recently released a number of albums of his solo work.

Jack Dangers is also an established remix artist, and his distinctive sound is instantly recognizable.

nominate your favorite track. i've always been sorta partial to "I Am Electro," but seeing them perform it live kicked even more ass than i had expected. plus they had clips from the movie playing on two big screens up on stage and they included lots of dialogue that isn't on the disc.
for maxin and relaxin i definately prefer subliminal sandwich and a nice fat spliff.
